Napoles happy for teammates, coach after Cavitex wins first leg title

JOREY Napoles found joy in hiking his personal collection in the PBA 3x3 to five leg wins and a conference championship with the triumph of his new team Cavitex in Leg 2 of the Season 2 First Conference tourney last Sunday.

But the decorated 3x3 player formerly with Limitless is happier for his current teammates, Dominick Fajardo, Chester Saldua, Bong Galanza, Tzaddy Rangel and Kyles Lao, and coach Emman Monfort for finally striking gold in the league.

Prior to Sunday's triumph, Cavitex reached a leg finale only once before - in Leg 2 of the Season 1 Third Conference - but lost to Meralco then.

"Hindi lang para sa sarili, para sa teammates ko. May contribution lahat dito, yung teammates ko, coaches namin at saka yung dalawa naming kasama, si Kyles at Tzaddy," said Napoles, who moved to Cavitex after the Appmasters took a leave of absence.

"Nagbunga yung practice namin, yung pinaghirapan namin. Ngayon kasi talagang yung 3x3 napakahirap. Thank God, nakuha namin," he added.

The Braves beat San Miguel Beer in a thriller, 21-19, to cap a long drive to glory in the standalone league. Along the way, they defeated two perennial contenders, the Bolts in the semifinals, 17-16, on Napoles' buzzer-beating floater, and Platinum Karaoke in the quarterfinals, 14-12, unleashing a 7-1 closing barrage to get the job done.

"Sobrang saya kasi ngayon lang namin nakuha ito. From second last year, ngayon champion na kami," said Fajardo, one of the longest tenured player in the PBA 3x3 team of the NLEX franchise.

"We fell short last conference, first runner up lang kami and we used that as motivation," said Galanza, whose outside sniping complemented the clutch plays of the 3x3 veteran Napoles in this breakthrough campaign. (OL)
