Marcial sees PBA 3x3 expansion by second conference

THREE legs into the PBA 3x3 first conference, the league has drawn tremendous attention and interest that could well lead to expansion just by the second conference.

Four companies have expressed interest to join the 13 teams - 10 PBA affiliates and three non-PBA regulars - that are slugging it out in the inaugural conference.

"I feel two of the four are very serious, and they may well start participating in the second conference that is set to begin in January," said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

"Ang ganda kasi ng response ng tao. We're enjoying good TV ratings. Nagustuhan ng fans ang 3x3. At malamang na lumago pa ang interest because the players are getting used to the game, at lalong nagiging competitive ang mga laro," Marcial also said.

The league commissioner also noted the good balance as evidenced by three different teams emerging victorious in the first three legs of the six-leg opening conference.

The TNT Tropang Giga ruled the kickoff leg, the Meralco Bolts reigned supreme in the next, then the Sista Super Sealers topped them all in the third leg.

The competing teams will get some breather as the league will now hold 3x3 games only on weekends.

The first three legs were a bit taxing as these were spread just over a period of nine days.

"Tuwing Saturday and Sunday na ang 3x3 because we're to start our 5-on-5," said Marcial.

The 13 3x3 teams are fighting for leg honors and leg points in a series that is to culminate in a grand finale to crown the conference champion. (SB)
