Leg 3 podium finishers advance with ease

THE podium finishers of Leg 3 - winner TNT, runner-up Cavitex and third placer Meralco 3x3 - asserted themselves in pool play to lead the quarterfinal march in the PBA 3x3 Season 2 Second Conference Leg 4 Saturday at Robinsons Malabon.

The Tropang Giga, the only double-leg ruler in the conference so far, leaned on a pair of Gryann Mendoza heroics to sweep past Blackwater, 21-19, and Terrafirma, 21-13, for Pool A No. 1.

The Braves brought the broom versus San Miguel Beer, 21-16, and NorthPort, 18-12, to finish as top qualifier in Pool B.

The Bolts eked out thrilling victories over Purefoods, 15-14 behind Alfred Batino's clutch buckets in overtime, and Platinum Karaoke, 18-17, behind JJ Manlangit's buzzer-beating two-ball, for the highest seeding in Pool C.

Leg 2 winner J&T Express similarly flexed its muscle in posting a best 2-0 card in Pool D at the expense of Barangay Ginebra, 21-16, and Pioneer Elastoseal, 19-15.

Joining the advance to Sunday's KO rounds were group runners-up Blackwater (Pool A), NorthPort (Pool B), Platinum (Pool C) and Barangay Ginebra (Pool D) with 1-1 records.

The Gin Kings clinched the D2 position with a 21-9 romp over the Katibays in the last game of Day 1.

The Red President, the Batang Pier, and the Karaoke cagers banked on their early triumphs over the Dyip, 21-18, the Beermen, 21-18, and the Titans, 21-11, respectively, to progress.
