Cavitex takes a big leap, zooms in to third spot in team standings

Buoyed by their breakthrough leg win last Sunday, the Cavitex Braves leapt six places to third spot in the team standings of the PBA 3x3 Season 2 First Conference.

From a meager 20 points in the first leg, the Braves hiked their overall tour points to 120 after zooming all the way to the top in Leg 2 via a thrilling 21-19 finals win over San Miguel Beer.

The Emman Monfort-coached squad trails Leg 1 winner TNT Tropang Giga (170 points) and Meralco 3x3 (140 points), which maintained their hold of 1-2 after placing third and fourth, respectively, over the weekend.

Platinum Karaoke, with 115 points, slid to No. 4 from its previous third position.

J&T Express occupies fifth (110) followed by SMB (98), which jumped four spots to sixth, Blackwater Red President (90) at seventh, Pioneer ElastoSeal (80) at eighth, NorthPort (56) at ninth, and Purefoods TJ Titans (49) at 10th.

Sitting outside the Magic 10 are Terrafirma 3x3 (34) and Barangay Ginebra (21).

The 12 teams resume their quest for precious tour points in Leg 3 next week.

The main goal is to finish in the Top 4 after six legs to gain outright berths to the quarterfinals of the conference grand finals. If not, the next best thing is to get in the fifth to 10th places to advance to the pool phase of the conference championship. Only two teams will be eliminated after the six legs. (OL)
